Collection: Zwitsal

In the early 1900s, a Dutch pharmacist's apprentice, Mr. Jansen, went to Switzerland for an internship. He worked for a Swiss pharmacist. He made an ointment that worked quickly and effectively against sunburn, among other things. Mr. Jansen asked the pharmacist for the recipe for this special balm and in 1920 he started selling the “Swiss Balm” in the Netherlands. It soon becomes apparent that this balm is mainly used for babies. Only then does Mr. Jansen decide to expand his range with baby products such as oil, soap and powder. Zwitsal only really became a baby brand in 1928, when Mr. Jansen changed the name “Zwitserse Balsem” to “Zwitsal”. He also updated the Zwitsal logo in 1929. His own 11-month-old daughter Mieke, with the now famous crest, adorned every powder container from that year on.
